Monuments/Historical Places/Forts in Las Vegas

The Grand Canyon:
Considered as one of the seven natural wonders of the world, this steep-sided canyon has been created over a period spanning millions of years. It is truly fascinating with a unique natural beauty and consists of visually appealing landscapes. Tourists visiting this area would be amazed by the diversity of biological environments in various elevated regions. Many different varieties of plants and animals can be found in one of its geographical area that has been converted into an ecological reserve called The Grand Canyon National Park.

Hoover Dam:
This curved dam in the Black Canyon of Colorado River was built between the years 1931 to 1936 and named after Herbert Hoover, who was the 31st president of United States. It provided employment to thousands of workers during the Great Depression, but many of them had lost their lives while its construction was in progress. Today, it is a major tourist attraction for travelers visiting Las Vegas and its surrounding regions. Hoover Dam was opened for tourists in the year 1937, a year after its completion. It is open daily between 9 am and 6 pm for visitors except on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Little Church of the West:
This wedding chapel was opened in the year 1942 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. The oldest chapel on Las Vegas Strip, it is built of California redwood.

Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort:
This structure was built by Mormon missionaries, who were also the first European settlers in the region. It is located to the east of Las Vegas Boulevard and north of Fremont Street and Downtown area. Visitors to this fort can also avail of a visitor center where they can get detailed information on its history.
