Monuments / Historical Places / Forts in Paris...

France has a long historical, cultural and architectural background. Due to its huge cultural heritage France and even the capital city Paris hosts a long list of popular monuments which are visited by tourists coming from worldwide destinations. From the big list of Paris monuments here are a few most popular historical monuments.

The Château de Versailles or the palace of Versailles is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List for many years. The palace can be considered as one of the great accomplishments of 18th-century French art. The Palace and its beautiful garden became the exclusive model for palaces in Europe. The place begun as a hunting lodge for the king, which later served as the home for three French kings and each one of them made a few modifications to make it more attractive. They continued living here till the French revolution. Louis XIV selected this site to build a palace. The Château got a new role in 19th Century and was converted into Museum of History of France. The rooms of the palace were used to store and add collections for Museum. It is a great example of French art and architecture to the visiting tourists.

Arc de Triomphe Paris
This Arcbuilt between1806 and 1836 stands at the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle and is located at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. This monument is more triumphant among the arches of France. Even though the structure was modified many times the arch still holds the essence of the original concept. It incorporates decorative style which is similar to tradition of sculpture from the first half of the nineteenth century. This arch is dedicated to the brave people who fought for the integrity of France, especially during the Napoleon Wars. Inside and the top of the arch there are engravings of the names of generals who fought during those wars. Under the vault of the arch there are inscriptions and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from First World War. A continuous flame burns at this memorial making this place a true monumental site.

It is located on the 5th arrondissement on the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève. It was built by the architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot who unfortunately died before the work was completed. It is considered as one of the most important architectural achievements of that time and the first great neoclassical monument of its type. Technically speaking pantheon is a temple for the Romans but for the French it is a sort of funeral. This Pantheon in Paris has an interesting story, it was originally built as a church dedicated to St. Genevieve, turned into a pantheon and again it was changed back to Church. From Church once again it was changed to pantheon. It is the most visited popular French monument.
