Festivals in Maui ...

Chinese New Year: Celebrated in early February, this festival is of utmost importance to the Chinese community of Maui. One of the best Maui events coming every year, the Chinese people hold great celebrations including traditional lion dances and other cultural events.

Whalefest Week: This festival witnesses an entire week of festivities, celebrating the migration of humpback whales to the region in winter season. This one is special among all festivals in Maui as it helps in raising awareness about these marine species among all the tourists.

Buddha Day: Buddha's birth is celebrated on the first Saturday of April and a flower festival pageant is held on this occasion.

Banyan Tree Birthday Party: This occasion witnesses a week of festivities which falls in late April. Of all Hawaii festivals celebrated for various reasons, this one celebrates the birthday of a huge banyan tree which is situated in Lahaina region.

Lei Day Celebration: May Day is celebrated as 'Lei Day' and on this occasion, lei making contests and other colorful events are held. Lei refer to the garland of flowers, which is very common in Hawaii.

International Festival of Canoes: It is a well-known cultural event of Maui and also one of the most colorful of its festivals. All the master canoe-makers from different regions are invited to Lahaina for creating traditional canoes in full public view, using old-styled as well as modern tools.

Maui Film Festival: One of the most awaited cinematic events, this film festival is an annual event which is held at Wailea in mid-June. Audience can enjoy screenings of a variety of films under the stars.

Pineapple Festival: This festival is held in early July and features some great performances by musicians from different parts of Hawaii. Pineapple cooking contests and many other entertaining events are also witnessed on this occasion.

Maui Onion Festival: Celebrated in early August, this festival draws a huge crowd of contestants and spectators. There are several contests held on this occasion such as cooking demonstrations and onion-themed games.

Halloween: October 31st is a time when over twenty thousand costumed individuals parade the Front Street in Lahaina. A big party is held in this historic town of Maui where several restaurants and bars become venues for enjoying this occasion.

Festival of Lights: Celebrated in early December, this festival includes a variety of events including tree-lighting ceremonies and parades.
