Italian Dream (2012-13)

  • Your Italian Dream begins in the Eternal City of Rome where the grand Colosseum and St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City await your arrival. Then travel north to the floating city of Venice where a ride on its famous gondolas is a must. You will soon transfer to Florence to experience the essence of the Middle Ages in the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella and the Florence Cathedral.
  • Day 2: Arrive in Rome, Italy
Welcome to Rome! There is time to relax before meeting with your Travel Director in the afternoon. This evening why not take a stroll around the city and admire the squares and fountains by night?
  • Day 3: Rome Sightseeing & At Leisure
On a morning sightseeing tour with a Local Guide, visit awe-inspiring St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Then cross the Tiber River for views of the Forum and the Colosseum. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the city at your own pace. (Breakfast)
  • Day 4: Rome / Venice
Heading north from Rome, follow the upper Tiber Valley and pass the medieval towns of Orvieto and Orte. Climb through the forested Apennine Mountains, then descend to the plain of the River Po and continue to the magical city of Venice. (Breakfast, Dinner)
  • Day 5: Venice Sightseeing & Free Time
Start today with a cruise by private launch to St. Mark’s Square. Marvel at the Bridge of Sighs, the ornate Doge’s Palace and the Byzantine Basilica of St. Mark adorned with colorful glass mosaics. Watch a demonstration of the ancient art of glassblowing, which originated on the island of Murano. Then your time is free to explore or perhaps to take an optional trip to the island of Burano. (Breakfast, Dinner)
  • Day 6: Venice / Verona / Florence
Drive to the home of Shakespeare’s starcrossed lovers, Verona. See the vast Roman Arena, where concerts are still held each year, and walk to Juliet’s balcony. Then on to the beautiful region of Tuscany and the city of Florence. (Breakfast)
  • Day 7: Florence Sightseeing & Free Time
A morning walking tour with a Local Guide includes views of the Baptistery, renowned for its carved bronze doors, the domed cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto’s impressive bell tower, and the Piazza Signoria. After a leatherwork demonstration your time is free. (Breakfast, Dinner)
  • Day 8: Florence / Assisi / Rome
Drive to mystical Assisi, perched on the slopes of Mount Subasio. This city, under the protection of St. Francis, is still enclosed by medieval ramparts. See the highlights of the city, including the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels, built on the site where St. Francis died. Returning to Rome, your evening is free. (Breakfast)
